Dykon
records was created by queer women in São
Paulo and Curitiba.
Those who identify with the girl rock scene know how important
it is to make it accessible to as many people as possible.
Music, as our original access to feminism, is critical to
the history of our lives, and we recognize and value the
importance of making it available to other people. The idea
for Dykon records was born out of our belief in the importance
of supporting and further perpetuating an alternative music
scene that is much more liberatory (and much more interesting)
than what you will hear on the radio.
The girl-rock scene in Brazil has existed for more than
10 years, but we have seen many bands come and go without
any recognition for, or validation of, their importance
and hard work. Releasing their music is a form of activism
in response to the discrimination they have experienced
within a traditionally macho and male dominated punk scene. |
